Catherine Ford is a British actress, born in Bloomsbury. When her father left the household, the actress was brought to maturity by her mother, godparents and grandmother. She suffered from an anxiety disorder caused by words as a young teenager. Ford's passion for acting started when she was young. She was a part of at the National Youth Theatre. She was accepted to the Sylvia Young Theatre School. However, after only a few weeks, she realized it was not for her. Ford was then able to apply to be a student in the Central School of Speech and Drama and was accepted on her 4th attempt. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler in Doctor Who. Ford was not able to complete her degree in 1993. However, in 1991, Ford had made her first appearance on TV in an episode of Surgical Spirit. At that time, Ford adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. Tate was featured in such programs on television like The Bill, Men Behaving Badly as well as London Burning. Tate was also a regular performer in theatre and eventually joined in the Royal Shakespeare Company during its season 2000-2001. Tate's stand-up comedy style and humour, which she added to her show in the year 1996, was soon gaining her attention.
