Audra Mcdonald is a standout in the breadth of her talent and her versatility as a singer and actor. She has been a six-time record winner at the Tony Awards, two Grammy Awards as well as the Emmy Award she received in the year 2015 by Barack Obama. She's equally comfortable in film, television and Broadway. The luminous tone of her voice makes her a natural on the stage. She has a successful career as a recording artist and concert performer, appearing regularly at many of the top performances around the world. A musically inclined family, McDonald was raised living in Fresno California and received her classical vocal training at the New York's Juilliard School. She was awarded her debut Tony Award in 1994 for the Best Performance of an Actress in a musical, Carousel in the Lincoln Center Theater. The actress won her fourth Tony in 2004, starring alongside Sean Diddy Combs in A Raisin in the Sun as well as the following year in. In 2012, she took home five Tonys, and the first in the category of lead actress for her role in The Gershwins Porgy and Bess as the title role. In 2014, she created Broadway history, becoming an official Tony Awards most decorated performer in her sixth award in the role of Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill the role which was also the vehicle for her Olivier Award nominated performance in the 2017 season of the London's West End. Along with setting the record for most awards won by actors in competition, she was also the first actor to be awarded awards across all four categories. Then, in the year 2006, McDonald appeared on WB's The Bedford Diaries. The next year, she appeared as an actor who appeared on NBC's Kidnapped. McDonald's role in HBO movie Lady Day At Emerson Bar Restaurant earned her four times an Emmy nomination in the year 2016. The Bite was a six episode pandemic themed drama produced through Spectrum Originals in collaboration with CBS Studios. She first appeared on the show in the role of U.S. attorney Liz Lawrence in 2009 on CBS's legal drama The Good Wife in 2018 McDonald returned to the character (now named Liz Reddick) as a season regular on The Good Fight on Paramount+ receiving three Critics Choice Award nominations for her performance. She is currently appearing as a guest in Julian Fellowes' historical thriller The Gilded Age on HBO.
